Medium-bodied on the palate, with dusty tannins and crisp, pure acidity. Red and black cherry, currants, red apple and ripe raspberries with just the right touch of mushroomy earthiness. Finishes showing a deft touch of minerality and earthy complexity from the volcanic soils. -Wow.
WHAT MAKE'S ZENA CROWN SO IMPORTANT?
Zena Crown vineyard is located east-southeast of the Van Duzer corridor, in the heart of the Eola-Amity hills district of Oregon's Willamette Valley. The volcanic soils of this vineyard are directly influenced and defined by the maritime winds that flow across the Van Duzer Corridor from the Pacific Ocean. These maritime winds cause large diurnal shifts, the difference between daytime high temperature and nighttime low temperatures. Also, the winds have a drying effect, contributing to thicker grape skins, and raising the levels of phenolic compounds in the fruit. The cooler temperatures ripen the fruit slowly, evenly, creating a longer hang time, which in turn give more complete phenolic ripeness to the pinot noir grapes.
