This famous First Growth was a favorite of Thomas Jefferson. It is certainly my favorite Bordeaux. It has most consistent track record of any of the First Growths (along with Lafite) and is probably the greatest wine of this vintage.

Having had the 1989 and the 1971 just last week, I will tell you Haut Brion is my favorite producer of all time. Look for plenty of stony-earthy, mineral driven scents with an underpinning of cigar tobacco and cedar-cigarbox notes that are unmistakably Haut Brion. A Brilliant Wine! -KEITH

the 2002 Haut-Brion is beginning to drink very well, opening in the glass with aromas of blackcurrants, plums, cigar wrapper, loamy soil, burning embers and violets. Fleshing out considerably with an hour or two in the decanter, it's medium-bodied, vibrant and concentrated, exemplifying the ideal of intensity without weight, with a deep core of fruit framed by powdery tannins and lively acids.
