The first vintage of the Burlotto Pelaverga was 1800. Pelaverga (often known as "Pelaverga Piccolo") is a rare red grape from the hills of Piedmont in northwestern Italy. Pelaverga has two last bastions in the Verduno Pelaverga and Colline Saluzzesi DOCs of Piedmont's Cuneo province. It is used to make delicate colored wines with a distinctive red fruit, cranberry, pomegranate, Morello cherry aroma often found at the fruitier, more fragrant end of the Pinot Noir spectrum, revealing an alternative, rather light-hearted side of Piedmontese wine.
