A light yellow-green color with bright, shimmery reflections suggests a very crisp, fresh wine. Aromatic highlights of grapefruit, gooseberry, citrus zest, crunchy white cassis berries and other tropical fruits. Medium in body with super crisp white peach and a precise, tensile cut of lemony acidity that adds stength and shows some minerality from the slate. Just Delicious!-Keith
NOTES ABOUT THE WINERY: This is winery run by the Wohlmuth Family (1803) for over 200 years. The estate in Südsteiermark (South Styria) has cultivated vineyards in and around the highest winegrowing town in the region, Kitzeck in Sausal. The estate owns several of the steepest vineyards anywhere in Europe, with up to 90% impossibly steep gradients that requires strenuous work in the vineyard and passion in the winery.
Due to the direct orientation and its altitude to the nearby Alps, the Steinriegl vineyard cools down extremely quickly in the evening, which leads to intense aromas and brisk acidities. The solid slate slabs in the soil are pounded by hammer into fragments, with each individual vine painstakingly worked into the barren soil.The extremely barren, red, phyllitic (Mica,schist and clay) slate and quartz filled soil gives the wines their very own spicy characteristic.
